Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

• Sign-in: through Firebase Authentication (Google), your name, email, picture and an account ID. With an email account, your email and an account ID; Firebase keeps your password, scrambled, and we never see it.
• Profile: the name your reviews are signed with, and your Google picture if you use it.
• Reading: your shelf, your place in each book, your choices, the endings you reach, your ratings, and passages written for you when you go your own way.
• Gems: your balance and its history: free gems, spending, purchases, refunds and your monthly plan.
• Purchases: Paddle takes your payment details; we only learn what you bought, the payment’s ID and its status.
• Your 18+ confirmation, and when you gave it, if you gave one when the app asked for it.
• Reviews and reports: reviews are shown to other readers with your chosen name. Reports you send carry your account ID.
• Server logs: IP address, browser and pages requested, kept briefly by our host.

We don’t collect your location, contacts or card details, and we use no analytics or advertising trackers. Our fonts are served by us.

2. Going your own way

• The action you write, the last few lines of the scene and the book are sent to Anthropic, our language-model provider, to write the passage that answers it.
• We don’t keep or log the sentence you wrote. We keep the passage, so turning back shows it again and a retry is never charged twice.
• Please don’t write personal details into the story.

3. Where it’s stored

In your account, in Google’s Cloud Firestore, so it follows you to any device. A copy of your library stays on your device for offline reading and is removed when you sign out. Settings like dark mode, type size and sound stay on the device. Our providers are in the United States.

4. How we use it

• To run the app: sign-in, your library and your place, and passages when you go your own way.
• To keep your gems: purchases, free gems, choices and refunds.
• To send account emails: confirming your address, resetting your password, and a note when it changes.
• To keep the app safe and working.

5. Who we share it with

• Google (Firebase): sign-in and storage.
• Anthropic: writing passages when you go your own way.
• Paddle: payments, tax and refunds, as our merchant of record. It gets what you give at checkout and your account ID.
• Vercel: hosting the app and our server.
• Resend: sending account emails (otherwise Firebase sends them).

We may also disclose information when the law requires it or to keep people safe. If the app is ever sold, this policy goes with your information.

6. How long we keep it

• Your account, reading and gems: until you close your account.
• Reviews: until you delete them or close your account.
• Reports: as long as we need to deal with them.
• Payment records: Paddle keeps its own, as tax law requires.
• Server logs: briefly.

After an account is closed we keep only a marker that its gem wallet was closed (no balance, no history), so new free gems can’t be collected by reopening.

7. Your choices and rights

• Change your name, or use your Google name and picture, in Settings.
• Delete a review from the page where you wrote it.
• Close your account in Settings, under Account → Close the account. It deletes everything above.
• Depending on where you live (including California, the EU and the UK), you can ask to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your information, or object to how it’s used. Contact us; you won’t be treated differently. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

8. Children

The app is for adults 18 and over. If we learn we hold information from anyone under 18, we delete it.

9. Changes

We’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if a change is significant.
