Terms of Service

1. Who can use it

You must be 18 or older, and an adult where you live. Using the app confirms that you are.

2. The app

Fantasy-romance novels by our authors, read a page at a time, with choices that change the story. They include intimate scenes between adult characters. All characters and events are fictional.

3. Your account

• Sign in with Google, or with an email and password. Keep them secure.
• You’re responsible for your account. One person per account.
• Don’t use a name that impersonates someone.

4. Gems and purchases

• Some choices, a book’s ending and going your own way cost gems. The price shows before you choose; every price is on About and prices.
• Free gems arrive once a day when you check in, that is, open the app; missed days don’t add up. You can also buy gem packs, or a monthly plan that makes every choice and ending free and adds gems each month for going your own way, which the plan doesn’t make free.
• Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Its Buyer Terms also apply. We never see your card details.
• Gems are a licence to use features of the app. They have no cash value, can’t be transferred, and are used up when spent. Bought gems don’t expire while your account is open.
• The monthly plan renews each month until you cancel. Cancel any time; it runs to the end of the month you paid for. Gems it added stay yours.
• Purchases are final, except where the law says otherwise. See the Refund Policy.
• Prices may change. We’ll tell you before a new monthly price applies, and you can cancel first.

5. Going your own way

When you write your own action, the passage that answers it is written automatically by a language model, provided by Anthropic. It may be imperfect, and it’s fiction, not advice. You’re only charged when a passage is written.

6. Acceptable use

Don’t use the app to:

• break the law;
• write or seek sexual content involving minors, in any form;
• harass, threaten or expose real people, including in reviews;
• get around the cost of choices, the gem wallet or payments;
• probe, overload or scrape the service, or copy the books out of it;
• push the story’s writer to produce anything but the story.

We may remove a review, or suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. A closed account loses its unspent gems.

7. Ownership

The books, the world of Protheka and the app belong to SPH Studios and its authors. You get a personal, non-transferable licence to read them in the app. Quote briefly in a review, but don’t copy, share or sell the books. Your reviews stay yours; we may show them in the app.

8. Changes to the app

We may add, change or remove books, choices and features. We can’t promise the app will always be available. If we close it, we’ll give notice, and refund unused subscription time where the law requires.

9. Closing your account

Close it any time in Settings, under Account → Close the account. That deletes your library, reviews and gems, and can’t be undone; unspent gems aren’t refunded, so cancel a monthly plan first. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

10. Disclaimers and liability

To the extent the law allows, the app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. We aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before it, or US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

11. The law that applies

The laws of the State of California, USA, and its courts, unless the law where you live gives you rights that can’t be waived. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stands.

12. Changes to these terms

We’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if a change is significant. Using the app after a change means you accept it.
